Sourcing Niche Perfumes on Vinted: The Category Nobody Is Watching

On Vinted, everyone is fighting over the same ground: trainers, streetwear, vintage Levi's. Meanwhile, an entire category sits almost deserted: niche perfumery. Bottles that retail for £200-£400 show up regularly at a fraction of that price -- usually posted by someone who got a gift they didn't like, and who has no idea what they're holding.

This is the one corner of Vinted I know better than any other: it's literally why Telvin Bot exists. I didn't build this bot for sneaker resellers. I built it for me, because I was hunting niche perfumes on Vinted and I had zero interest in spending my days refreshing the app. The good ones were always gone before I saw them. So I built something that pings me in under a second. Everything else (the hundreds of users, the reselling crowd, all of it) came afterwards.

Here's what I learned hunting this category: nobody is watching it seriously. No organised resellers, no millisecond war like on sneakers. Just listings that move slowly... except the real gems, which vanish within minutes the moment someone who knows walks past.

What actually counts as a niche perfume?

Unlike "designer" fragrances (Dior, Chanel, YSL...) sold in every high-street shop, niche houses lean on rare raw materials, limited distribution and bolder compositions. The names that come up again and again:

  • Creed -- Aventus is probably the most sought-after men's fragrance on the market
  • Maison Francis Kurkdjian (MFK) -- Baccarat Rouge 540 is a global phenomenon
  • Le Labo -- Santal 33, a cult classic
  • Byredo, Diptyque, Kilian, Frédéric Malle, Amouage, Xerjoff, Parfums de Marly, Nishane

Retail sits somewhere between £150 and £400 a bottle, sometimes more. That's exactly what makes sourcing here worth it: the potential margin is huge, and the barrier to entry (knowing the houses, knowing how to authenticate) filters out 99% of resellers.

The Vinted rule you absolutely need to know: new and sealed only

Before we go further, one non-negotiable point. The Vinted catalogue rules are clear: cosmetics -- perfume included -- cannot be sold if they've been used, even once, or if they're not in their original sealed packaging.

In practice:

  • ✅ Brand new perfume, still in cellophane, never opened → allowed
  • ❌ Opened bottle, "only sprayed twice", decants → banned, listing removed

You'll still come across opened bottles on the platform -- moderation doesn't catch everything. My advice: don't buy them. The listing can be pulled at any moment, and you have no guarantee about what's actually in the bottle (nothing easier than refilling a genuine flacon with fake juice). The real seam to mine is sealed, unopened bottles.

Why £300 perfumes end up on Vinted at all

Three scenarios come up over and over:

  1. The bad gift. Someone gets a Baccarat Rouge 540 at Christmas, doesn't like it, sells it on. Nine times out of ten they have no idea what it's worth, so they list it at a price that feels "reasonable for a perfume" -- which is to say, way under market.
  2. The broken-up gift set. Boxed sets contain sizes that end up sold individually on Vinted.
  3. The regretted impulse buy. Picked up in duty free or after smelling it on someone else, never opened, resold six months later to free up space and claw back some cash.

In all three cases, the typical seller is not a perfume seller. Look at their profile: if it's someone clearing out their wardrobe and, in among it, one sealed bottle, that's a good sign. A profile listing 15 brand-new niche fragrances is either a disguised trader or a counterfeit shop.

Authenticating before you buy: the checklist

Perfume is one of the most counterfeited categories in the world. That's the trade-off for "zero competition": you have to know how to check. Here's what to run through before you tap Buy.

1. The batch code

Every genuine perfume carries a batch code: an alphanumeric identifier printed or embossed on the bottle and on the box. The two must match. Ask the seller for a photo of the underside of the bottle and the underside of the box.

Then run the code through a checker like CheckFresh or CheckCosmetic: it should return a plausible production date. Missing code, unreadable code, or a code that matches nothing → walk away.

2. The packaging

A genuine luxury fragrance has flawless packaging: cellophane pulled perfectly tight with no creases or bubbles, crisp box edges, printed text with no smudging. Zoom into the photos. At the slightest doubt, ask for more -- an honest seller has no problem sending them.

3. The price

A brand-new 100ml Aventus at £70 isn't a bargain, it's a fake. Genuine niche bargains land around 30-50% below retail -- the seller wants a quick sale, not to give the bottle away. Below that, the odds of a counterfeit go through the roof.

4. The seller

Reviews, account age, whether the rest of the wardrobe makes sense. And remember: Vinted Buyer Protection covers you if the item you receive doesn't match the listing -- but only if you pay inside Vinted. Never take the deal off-platform, however tempting the "better price if we do it direct" message looks.

The shipping bit nobody mentions

A detail 95% of buyers miss: perfume is classified as a flammable liquid (because of the alcohol content), and it's officially a prohibited item for Royal Mail, Evri and InPost parcels. In practice, bottles ship every single day without incident -- but if a parcel goes missing or gets crushed, restricted contents make any claim against the carrier far messier.

What that means for you as a buyer: favour sellers who pack properly (just ask them in the messages), and keep in mind that Vinted Buyer Protection stays your best cover in case of breakage or loss.

How to actually hunt: the alerts that pay

This is the heart of it. Good niche fragrance deals disappear in minutes when they're listed well -- and sit around for weeks when they're listed badly. Your strategy has to cover both.

Search by fragrance name, not by brand

Plenty of sellers fill in the "brand" field wrong or leave it blank. Search the juice names instead:

  • "Aventus", "Baccarat Rouge", "Santal 33", "Layton", "Interlude"

Spelling mistakes -- your best friend

Niche houses have names nobody can spell, which is exactly where the best deals hide, invisible to normal searches:

  • "Kurkdjian" → "Kurdjian", "Kurkdijan", "Kurkjian", "Kurdgian"
  • "Xerjoff" → "Xerjof", "Zerjoff", "Xerjeff"
  • "Baccarat" → "Bacarat", "Baccarrat", "Baccara"
  • "Aventus" → "Aventis", "Adventus", "Creed Adventus"
  • "Le Labo Santal" → "Le Lab Santal", "LeLabo Sandal"
  • "Parfums de Marly Layton" → "Parfum de Marley Layton", "Parfums de Marley"
  • "Amouage Interlude" → "Amouge Interlude", "Amuage Interlude"

Generic terms

"Niche perfume", "designer perfume new", "sealed perfume", "unwanted gift perfume" -- sellers who don't know what their bottle is worth reach for exactly this kind of vague wording. Lower volume, but the highest gem rate of any search you'll run.

Automating the watch with Telvin Bot

Manually monitoring 15 search variants across 8 perfume houses is not sustainable. That's precisely the problem that made me build Telvin Bot -- hunting niche fragrances is its original use case.

With Telvin Bot, you create one alert per search -- "Aventus", "Kurdjian", "sealed niche perfume"... -- and you get a Telegram notification in 750 ms the second a matching listing goes live. The connoisseur refreshing Vinted twice a day doesn't stand a chance against you.

The winning combo on this niche:

  1. One alert per star fragrance (exact names)
  2. One alert per common misspelling
  3. One or two generic alerts ("niche perfume", "sealed perfume")
  4. On notification: batch code + packaging check before you buy

Niche perfumery is one of the last Vinted categories with no organised competition. Whoever gets in now, with the right checks and the right alerts, has a genuine head start.
