Vinted vs Poshmark vs Depop: The 2026 Fee Breakdown for Resellers
Vinted vs Poshmark vs Depop: The 2026 Fee Breakdown for Resellers
Three platforms, three completely different fee philosophies. Poshmark takes a fifth of your sale. Depop takes almost nothing. Vinted takes literally nothing and bills your buyer instead.
Here's what each one actually costs you in 2026 — and the tradeoff the fee tables never show.
The Fee Structures, Straight
Vinted — $0 seller fees. No listing fee, no commission, no final value fee. The buyer pays a Buyer Protection fee of 5% + $0.70, plus weight-based shipping ($3.99 for small parcels up to $12.99+).
Depop — 0% selling fee for US and UK sellers (dropped in 2024), but 3.3% + $0.45 payment processing. Careful: that's calculated on the total transaction — item price plus shipping plus sales tax, not just your item price. Buyers can be charged up to 5% + $1. Outside the US and UK, the old 10% commission still applies.
Poshmark — 20% on anything $15 or over, flat $2.95 under $15. That covers everything: prepaid label, payment processing, seller protection. The buyer pays a flat $7.67 for shipping up to 5 lbs.
What You Actually Keep
Assume $5 buyer-paid shipping on Vinted and Depop, ignore tax:
| Sale price | Vinted | Depop (US) | Poshmark |
|---|---|---|---|
| $8 | $8.00 | $7.12 | $5.05 |
| $15 | $15.00 | $13.89 | $12.00 |
| $40 | $40.00 | $38.06 | $32.00 |
| $100 | $100.00 | $96.08 | $80.00 |
Effective take rate at $8: Vinted 0%, Depop 11%, Poshmark 37%.
That last number is the one to sit with. Poshmark's flat $2.95 is brutal on cheap items. Anything under $15 hands over a third of the sale. If your inventory is thrift-sourced tees and $10 jeans, Poshmark is quietly taking your margin.
At $100, the ranking flips in importance: the Poshmark 20% costs you $20 per sale. Twenty items a month at that price is $400/month, or $4,800 a year, versus zero on Vinted.
The Tradeoff Nobody States
Low seller fees don't come free — they get moved to the buyer. And buyer-side cost is what actually kills your conversion.
Total checkout on a $40 item:
| Vinted | Depop | Poshmark | |
|---|---|---|---|
| Item | $40.00 | $40.00 | $40.00 |
| Buyer fee | $2.70 | up to $3.00 | $0 |
| Shipping | ~$5.99 | ~$5.00 | $7.67 |
| Buyer pays | $48.69 | $48.00 | $47.67 |
Read that again. At $40, Poshmark is the cheapest checkout for your buyer even with a 20% commission, because there's no buyer fee bolted on. Your buyer doesn't care what you keep — they care what they pay.
Now run the same thing on an $8 item:
- Vinted: $8 + $1.10 + $3.99 = $13.09
- Depop: $8 + $1.40 + $5.00 = $14.40
- Poshmark: $8 + $7.67 = $15.67 — shipping is nearly the item price
That's the whole mechanism. Poshmark's flat $7.67 makes cheap items unsellable; Vinted's $3.99 small-parcel rate makes them work. It's why Vinted's US sweet spot sits at $8–$35 and Poshmark's sits above $30. It was never about the commission.
Who Each Platform Is Actually For
Fees are half the decision. Audience is the other half, and it's less negotiable.
Poshmark — 165M members, the biggest US pool by far. Millennial women, 25–40, search-driven. Wins on NWT contemporary brands (Lululemon, Free People, Anthropologie), workwear, handbags, recognizable mid-range labels. Pay the 20% and accept it: you're buying access to demand that exists nowhere else. Requires the social "sharing" grind to get visibility.
Depop — 40M users, roughly 90% of buyers under 34. Gen Z native. Wins on vintage, Y2K, streetwear, one-of-a-kind aesthetic pieces — where buyers pay a premium for vibe, not brand. Note the new optional 12% Boosted Listings fee live since March 2026; you don't need it, but you'll be nudged.
Vinted — 100M+ globally, still thin in the US. Everyday deal hunters. Wins on mall brands, kids' clothing, athletic wear, casual footwear at volume. Fewer buyers than Poshmark today, but also far fewer sellers competing, and it costs you nothing to be there. (More on the US market in our Vinted US 2026 guide.)
The Answer: Stop Picking One
Multi-platform sellers see meaningfully faster sell-through than single-platform ones, and the reason is boring — more eyeballs.
A $100 item netting $80 in a week beats a $100 item netting $96 that sits for two months. Velocity compounds; a 4% fee saving doesn't.
The practical split:
- Sub-$20 items → Vinted first. Poshmark's math destroys them.
- NWT contemporary brands, $30+ → Poshmark first, eat the 20%.
- Vintage, Y2K, streetwear → Depop first, pretty much regardless of price.
- Everything → crosslist. Vinted costs $0 to list, so there is no argument for leaving it out of the rotation.
The Fee You're Ignoring: Cost Basis
Every article on this topic optimizes the 3% to 20% you pay on the way out. Almost nobody talks about the number that moves your margin far more: what you paid for the item.
A $40 sale sourced at $4 clears $36 on Vinted. Sourced at $18, it clears $22 — and no fee structure on earth closes that gap.
This is where Vinted plays a second role that has nothing to do with selling. It's also the cheapest sourcing pool in resale, because sellers there are individuals clearing closets, not resellers pricing to market. The mispriced Lululemon, the mislabeled vintage, the $10 bundle — that's your inventory at a cost basis Poshmark sellers can't touch.
The catch: those listings are gone in under two minutes. You don't find them by scrolling.
Use a Monitor
If you came from sneakers, you know the tool: a monitor. It watches the feed continuously and pings you the second something matching your filters goes live — brand, size, price ceiling, condition. (Here's how to set one up.)
Not to be confused with an auto-buy bot. A monitor watches from the outside and sends you the link — you buy it yourself. No login to your account, nothing against platform terms, nothing to get banned for. Auto-buy bots log in and purchase for you; they're faster and they put your account and your reviews at risk.
For sourcing, being informed first is enough. Checkout takes 15 seconds when you're the only one who knows the listing exists.
